Understanding SSP Therapy: The Safe and Sound Protocol at Simply Teens Outpatient

SSP is a technique developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, used by occupational therapists and mental health professionals to leverage Polyvagal Theory.  Polyvagal theory explains how the vagus nerve influences our stress response. Through 30-minute sessions of listening to calming music, generally through over the ear headphones, SSP gradually calms the autonomic nervous system, helping the individual shift from a state of fight-or-flight to one of safety and social engagement.
